Skip to 13:18 if timestamp doesn’t work. He will spend what feels like half the episode geeking out over the stupidest, most mundane shit ever. Watching this you’d think he’d never encountered a trip computer before, and he’s simply amazed at how the buttons light up when they’re active (y’know, just like literally every other car ).
The bit at 2:55 and 3:55 about latching the hood also bugs me. It’s clearly a simple setup where the lever in the cabin actually acts as the latch. Unusual, but not worth the amount of time he spent over-explaining it. Barely merits a “Huh.”.
It’s as if he’s making these videos for people who have spent their whole lives in a cave and don’t know how cars work.
Quirks and features? More like basic ubiquitous car design.

Amen!

Agreed. 3/7 “ quirks” are actually quirks.
The quirk inflation has to end!

He also ripped off HHFP, so there's that.

I stopped watching Doug when he stopped writing for Jalopnik. I liked his articles, but I don’t think he’s the best video personality.

My thoughts exactly. Great writer, horrible presenter.

I actually enjoy these videos a lot, but they seem to keep getting longer and longer. I can’t keep watching each and every one if they’re all going to be 20 min+ long episodes. Especially with so many other great channels competing for my attention. So I don’t click on his videos anymore, unless it’s a car that I’m really interested in.

Every once in a while I’ll be like “ok I’ll give him another shot, see if he’s improved” and then NOPE still boring and annoying.

I’ve never watched one and have no intention to start. I never found a single watchable video made by Jalopnik staff.

No plastic engine cover on a car designed in the 70s you say?! I get that his audience is supposed to be younger and not entirely car people, necessarily, but some of these things could be framed as more of a “this i how cars were at this time,” rather than being a quirk.
The hood latch is similar to the SII E-type hood latch, I think. The S1.5 had a latch/hook thing on both the driver and passenger side doors.

How did I miss this? Context?

A ton of videos on YT are “reaction” crap where you’re supposed to watch someone watch something and see how they “react” to it. All seems to be geared for an audience of 8 year olds. That’s what Doug seems to be aiming for.

Same here. Also I find Auto Trader’s website maddening.

He knows his audience, and he plays to it really well because thats what pays the bills. His interview with Farah on TST podcast was a great listen, gave me a new perspective on him. He’s literally just doing what get his clicks and views. Why wouldn’t he? I did enjoy his earlier stuff better though .

his writing is exactly the same...on and on about nonsense in between points . I never understood why everyone enjoyed it, he tries way too hard and it shows. That he went to a non-enthusiast site would suggest his work is for the uninitiated...and now they think that’s what the enthusiasts is like.

The whole car is a quirk in that most of the stuff still works. Being Lucas and all.

I like these videos. They’re getting to the length where I can put one on as I’m trying to go to sleep and will be unconscious before it finishes. This way I don’t have that uncomfortable silence in the room when I’m tired, but not asleep, when a video finishes...

Here’s why I don’t like Doug videos:
